Typically, local afterschool and summer programs receive their 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) funding by July 1. The funds are for the 2025/2026 school year. They had already been appropriated by Congress and signed into law by President Trump.

The government is "doing a review" of the programs.

10,000 sites and approximately 1.4 million students are served by these programs and will be adversely impacted if the funds are not released.

To be clear, this is not specific to CACFP funding but still impacts our communities in many ways.

Not related but also important, the Senate passed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, dubbed by many as the Big Ugly Bill, yesterday with a very slim margin. It was a 50/50 vote, and Vice President JD Vance voted yes for the tie-breaker. It now goes to the House for a vote. There is time to tell your Representative in the House to vote no against this bill.
