About the Event

New research by the Urban Institute highlights the reality that there are more children cared for in child care settings that are legally exempt from state licensing than are in licensed programs, yet these settings are often excluded from CACFP. And most of the relatively few states that do allow them to participate restrict eligibility to the relatively few providers who are approved to get subsidies through the Child Care and Development Block Grant. Yet states can establish alternative approval processes that allow CACFP supports to go to a much broader swath of the children in these settings, and take steps to not only allow but encourage these providers to participate. Opening up the program to these providers has the potential to significantly support many vulnerable children and reduce food insecurity. Join the Urban research team to discuss their findings and possible next steps to increase access to CACFP for license-exempt home-based caregivers. If you'd like to check out the publications ahead of time, they are right here!
